Seriously.. last night show at The Aladdin, here in Portland, was unreal. When one of the principle dancers from The Oregon Ballet contacted me a few months ago about doing a show together I was sort of back on my heels a little bit… what would that be like? how much work would it be? would we still be able to play the way we play? All that “hey I’m an artist, but not in a the traditional sense.. but more in the hey lets let it all out sense!” kinda stuff. Would it be one of the coolest things we’ve ever done, or would it be awkward?… Honestly I knew it would be rad from the beginning.. but when you take on a collaboration like this.. there is some risk involved.
Well I am here to report that Uprising is sincerely one of the coolest things we’ve ever done. Laura Gibson and WEINLAND play back to back.. not two different sets, or even two different set ups.. but she plays a song with her band, and then we play song, and then she, and then we and so on.. and her songs are beautiful and gentle and everything you expect from her.. and our songs are slightly aggressive and intense and dramatic.. in contrast to her’s, even more than you would expect from us. And all the while these 7 amazing ballet dancers are jumping from level to level and throwing each other around all over the stage. Its seriously rad.
We have one more performance of this show and its tonight.. Its all ages, its at The Aladdin Theater in Portland, Oregon, the doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm and you’ll be home in time for a good night’s sleep, as the show ends at 9pm!
Hope to see you there!
